There is not just one answer to this question. It all depends on the type of technology, the student using the technology and what it is going to be used for. The Assistive Technology the student is going to receive may cost a little or nothing at all.
1. When it comes to special education, the school system may pay for learning materials as well as any technology that is included in the IEP.
2. Government programs (social security, medicaid, certain benefits) or private health insurance may pay for certain Assistive Technology if it is prescribed by a doctor only if it is necessary for the student.
3. Employers may pay for Assistive Technology to accomodate an employee.
It is important to note that paperwork is filled out for a student to receive Assistive technology but each state is different. Check with your state or school on how to go about receiving Assistive technology after there has been an agreement that the student would benefit from it.
